One of the scariest films ever made is said to star Nicole Kidman.

Alongside Chloë Sevigny, Paul Bettany, Lauren Bacall, Jean-Marc Barr, Stellan Skarsgård, and Ben Gazzara, the film from 2003 is a crime thriller.

It is said that the Lars von Trier arthouse film is a «parable» that is set on a «stage-like set.»

According to one narrative, Grace Mulligan is a lady who arrives in the little Colorado mountain town of Dogville, hiding from mobsters, and is given sanctuary in exchange for performing heavy labor.

Viewers and reviewers of Dogville held drastically divergent opinions.

Nine chapters make up the plot, in which Tom convinces Grace to stay in Dogville while she’s on the run. She performs household duties before the police come looking for her in an effort to win the trust of the locals.

In some way, the community forces her to work harder for less pay in order to maintain their protection. When men start pursuing her, though, women start acting abusively, and «even the children are perverse.»

Even worse, Kidman’s character is subjected to sexual assault, and when the villagers abandon Grace, the storyline starts to get out of hand.

Grace’s escape attempts ultimately fail, and she is forced to stay imprisoned, chained, abused, and sold as a slave.

Someone mentioned Dogville and «most, if not all, movies by Lars Von Trier» in a Reddit thread about scary films that «make your skin crawl» or feel «uncomfortable.»

«Dogville was something else,» another individual said in a remark, and «Yes, Dogville, uncomfortable off the chart» was written in another.
